Before I went to see the recent Christian movie God’s Not Dead, I thought its surprising success could be attributed mostly to youth group sales, and not to people who actually like this movie. In most of the discussions I’d seen, viewers both Christian and not found it boring and offensive, and I can’t say I disagree.
My Dad and I went to see this last Sunday. In its attempt to impose its authority and hit its mark with one massive swing, this movie misses the mark completely and ends up doing more harm to itself than to its opponent. And by villainizing Atheists, Muslims and anyone not in line with Christian dogma, the proponents of this film do (at least) three things: 1) instigate a petty argument as though it were necessary 2) invite ridicule 3) decimate any credibility they may have had to begin with.
I gotta say, I’m happiest when I’m on my bike.
Smart people ride bikes.
